Science experts meeting in Germany have lashed out at “charlatans” who claim to have reproduced human embryos and said that human cloning, while theoretically possible, is still a long way off.

“These charlatans cause plenty of problems and misunderstandings,” muttered Rudolf Jaenisch in front of a row of photographs by the Raelian sect.

Aging Study Proves Ties to Telomeres

May 20th, 2003 at 11:54 am » Comments (0)

The theory that shortening cell structures called telomeres play a key role in aging has received support from a finding that birds with longer telomeres also have a longer lifespan.

Telomeres cap chromosomes and in normal cells get shorter with each cell division. When they shorten enough, cells die.

Many researchers believe that this is one mechanism […]

The Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, the research arm of the chaebol of that name, estimates that such upgraded portable […]

Materials Approach Flawlessness at Nanoscale

Nature has taught scientists that there is a critical size — 30 nanometers — below which tiny structures become insensitive to flaws.

Research conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research in Germany and the Austrian Academy of Sciences has found that the size of mineral particles in biological materials such as bone and tooth […]

Wireless Video Camera Phones May Spell the End of Privacy
