Teen Girls Too Lazy for Exercise

Is your teenage daughter a couch potato?

A new study finds most teen girls are glued to the couch.

A recent study looked at a random sample of 2,000 teenage girls around the country.
It found more than half of the 16 to 19-year-olds were considered couch potatoes.

Most participants said they just didn’t have the time to exercise, others claimed to be too tired.

Megan McGowan and Kaylin Poast on the Verona soccer team keep very active between practice and games.

"It’s nice because you know you have two hours just to work out and run and kick a ball around," said Poast.

But without the motivation of the game, McGowan admits exercise becomes a last priority.

"If I would have to go work out on my own I wouldn’t do it," said
McGowan. "I just had two weeks off the past two weeks and I didn’t do
anything."

A new study by the American College of Sports Medicine shows that’s normal for most teen girls.

The study found an 83 percent decrease in the amount of activity in girls ages 16 to 19.

"When you look at their health habits they had plenty of sleep and they
had just as much free time as those kids who found enough time to
exercise," said Dr. Zorba Paster.
