Taking a Trip into the Vodka Freezer

Guests should don a parka before entering the vodka ice room at Binjiang One in Shanghai, China, because its kept at a chill -10 degrees C.

However, you can warm up by sampling the wide range of premium vodkas (the bar plans on offering as many as 200). The already numerous vodkas in stock come in the form of tasting shots at only RMB 70, no wimpy vermouth added.

For those less accustomed to the sting of straight spirits, the lounge features throat-friendly flavored vodkas with hints of espresso, chocolate, Merlot, honey or berries. After a bracing trip into the freezer (where few patrons have lingered longer than 20 minutes) you can stretch your legs in the warm outer room, a throwback to the gentleman’s clubs of yore, complete with leather armchairs and black and white photos of penguins, sled dogs and Arctic explorers. Here, one can muse about bygone adventurers over an extensive cocktail list (not just vodka) and a small but tasteful list of cheeses and appetizers, all served by friendly and professional staff.
