Google’s Global Influence

Google isn’t just dominating the US search market, but many international markets as well, according to speakers at a February 2007 conference sponsored by Search Engine Watch.

The number of Google users has grown almost two and a half times faster than the number of search users overall, according to Alex Burmaster of Nielsen//NetRatings. The gains are coming mainly from people who switch search engines.

Heather Hopkins of Hitwise stated that 77% of UK Internet searches in the four weeks prior to February 10, 2007, were conducted on Google, up from 71% during the same period the year before.

Based on click-through activity from August 1, 2006, to January 20, 2007, Google had a 72% share of the global search engine market, an 80% share of the UK search engine market and a 78% share of the French search engine market, according to Richard Zwicky of Enquisite.

Google’s global search engine market share actually dipped to 67% from January 20 to February 12, 2007. It also fell to 76% in the UK and to 77% in France during that same time period.
