British men are comfortable talking about their sex lives and their social lives with friends, according to a survey of top bar talk topics.

The survey, commissioned by the British Beer & Pub Association, found that sports were discussed 64% of the time by men in pubs, followed by work at 40%, politics at 40% and wife or girlfriend issues at 26%.

In fact, discussing their wife or girlfriends jumped from 9% in 2005 to 26% in 2006.

Men were also more comfortable talking about their sex lives — from 24% in 2005 to 27% in 2006.

Women were also more likely to talk about sex than they were a year ago — up from 14% to 19%, although the weather was a slightly more popular topic of conversation at 20%. The women’s favorite pub topic was their social lives at 59%, up from 42% the previous year.

"What we talk about in the pub reveals the truth about what’s really important to us," Pete Brown, author of "Man Walks into a Pub: A Sociable History of Beer," said in a statement. "This research proves that men are a lot more thoughtful and articulate than we are often given credit for."
