A ride that began in Honeoye Falls Tuesday morning could bring us a step closer to driving gasoline-free cars. Two fuel cell cars made the drive to Westchester County, more than 300 miles, on a single tank of hydrogen.
GM employees in Honeoye Falls are focused on the technology that could change the auto industry and maybe even the world.
GM engineer Jackie Paganin said, "It’s nice to work on things and make it work in the lab and on a few vehicles at a time. But to see an actual vehicle, people driving on real roads–is just amazing to me."
GM V.P. Larry Burns said, "I look at the employees and I really appreciate you coming out today. And very importantly, I look at your children here today. This is all about their future."
Since hydrogen is the fuel, the cars emit only water vapor.
General Motors is working to improve the cars’ reliability and create the needed hydrogen fueling stations.
A hundred demo fuel cell cars will be on the road in New York City this fall.
