People Still Use Handkerchiefs?

August 28th, 2008 at 11:23 pm » Comments (0)

I had no idea people still used handkerchiefs. I thought they were banned in the 90’s because it’s disgusting to carry a snot filled rag around with you all day. Apparently I was wrong. And apparently they’ve been upgraded to feature a pouch for your nose.

Freaking Awesome
The Navy is hoping that their newest 10 megajoule railgun (topping their old pathetic 9 megajoule) will replace the standard 5-inch guns on most of their ships. Projectiles fired at this energy level reach about 5,600 mph, but the Navy isn’t stopping there. They have their eyes set on a 64 megajoule system capable [...]

 gifts…. A way into a womens………Heart
Thinking of giving flowers and candy this Valentine’s Day? Nice gesture, but chances are your girl would prefer something a little shinier. Something with buttons perhaps, and a flash drive. Fortunately, PopSci is here to make shopping a breeze…

Researchers find that capuchin monkeys love to give
Primate intelligence gives me cognitive dissonance. It’s fascinating that monkeys can recognize numbers, construct tools and even follow to-do lists. But it also bruises my ego, just slightly, knowing that monkeys aren’t that different from my parents, friends or heroes. (Michael Phelps excluded. He’s the übermensch.)

At 27 kilometers long, it is the largest machine in the world. It will accelerate counter rotating beams of protons to within a whisker of the speed of light and smash them head-on 600 million times a second. The most distinctive feature of the Large Hadron Collider, though, is its temperature. At 1.9 kelvin – [...]

August 28th, 2008 at 8:50 am » Comments (0)

Quantum cryptography seems to be the latest technology that might help in protecting people’s information. The technique depends on Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, which states that it is impossible to measure at the subatomic level without altering it. So, when a QC system sends a message in 0 and 1 format, and if someone tries to [...]
