The BERTI Robot Mimics Human Gestures

BERTI Robot

Developed by Elumotion and the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, the BERTI robot, recently on display at London’s Science Museum, was specifically created to mimic human gestures. The “gesture bot” was designed to use human gestures to compliment verbal communication with humans.

One goal of the project is to assist human-to-robot interface situations, such as tele-operation surgery, in which delicate hand movements are essential. While a commercial version is still a ways off, we can imagine how this might enhance human-to-robot interface dynamics such as the recently announced Brain Machine Interface.
