PUMA: GM and Segway Take a Swing at a Small Car

Go Go Gadget Tiny Car

Take two companies whose products often come out on the wrong end of a joke, slap them together, and here’s the result: The P.U.M.A., a sort of giant, two-person Segway that is designed for commuters, with a 35-mile range from its lithium-ion batteries. It has a top speed of 35 MPH, which is plenty for city cruising.

What it isn’t is good-looking, but bear in mind it’s a prototype, which explains the caution stripes and (presumably) the lack of any real weather proofing or other creature comforts…

Both companies hope to have the Puma on the road by 2012. It’s cute and I’d love to play around with one, but I sort of don’t even care anymore. All these interesting runabouts get teased, then never actually appear-or if they do, they’re overpriced and impractical.

Is this America’s answer to the German Volkswagen (the people’s car)? manufactured by The Government Motors Co.After the car is made street legal, what will the mileage be per charge then?

First of all, this is not a “car”. It has two wheels thus is a motorized bicycle? or electric motorcycle? Furthermore it is a great idea, but not worth $10,000. I can buy a used 2 year old car with bumper to bumper 100,000 certified warraty from the factory for $10,000. Right? This is worth about $2000 more than a regular segway. This also can probably not be used on a daily basis without something going wrong within a few thousand miles. Just the color of its’ stripes…
