China may launch its first manned spacecraft in the next 18 months and plans to eventually build a reusable space vehicle similar to the US space shuttle, according to a Pentagon report.



The study, released Friday, said Beijing may send an astronaut into orbit aboard a Chinese-manufactured spacecraft by 2003 or 2004.
