Dogs and cats everywhere beware: AIBO is gaining on you.

Entertainment Robot America, a division of Sony Electronics Inc., announced yesterday that new software available in November will allow its robot pet AIBOrecognize an owner’s name, voice and face and recharge itself when it’s hungry.

“By infusing AIBO with increased artificial intelligence, such as voice and face recognition, we are expanding the autonomous functionality of the Entertainment Robot product line,” said Victor Matsuda, ERA’s vice president. “AIBO will now be even more pet like, giving owners the ability to interact with a robot like never before.”
