Australian scientists unveiled on Tuesday a method for mass-producing microscopic carbon nanotubes which could be used to create a new generation of super tennis racquets.

Researchers at Canberra’s Australian National University (ANU) said they had pioneered a bulk production technique for carbon nanotubes, which until now could only be manufactured in small numbers and at high cost.

The carbon nanotubes are 10 times stronger than the carbon fibres now used in sporting equipment, car bodies and elsewhere.
