Singaporeans looking for some light-hearted fun amidst the economic gloom can now turn to a new telephone service that enables them to make prank calls to their friends for a laugh.

The Hanky Pranky service, launched last month by local “audiotex” company Fletchers Communications, offers a series of pre-recorded voice messages such as, “This is the girl you stared at at the bar last night, remember?”

“How dare you steal my boyfriend,” goes another message.

The prank call, which costs 90 Singapore cents (52 US cents), ends with a message saying it was a hoax and the recipient is sent an SMS advising that it was from a friend.
