A car owner’s dream is becoming reality in Ecuador, thanks to an Israeli-designed “talking car” that lets drivers access telephone and email, or even launch an SOS, with hands still on the wheel.

A wide range of voice options on a computer platform known as ChevyStar became available two months ago on Chevrolet vehicles manufactured in Ecuador. In the near future they will also be available elsewhere in Latin America.

Ecuador, chosen for the South American pilot scheme because of Chevrolet’s strong market share in that country, has 12.1 million people and covers an area of 283 561 square kilometres.
