Rat muscle tissue has been used to power tiny robots, a development that could lead to stimulators that help paralyzed people breathe and “musclebots” that maintain spacecraft by plugging holes from micrometeorites.


MEMS are tiny machines that range in size from a micron—a millionth of a meter—to a millimeter—a thousandth of a meter.



They are created with modified silicon fabrication technology, molding and plating, electro discharge machining and other technologies capable of manufacturing very small devices.
