Good news for chocolate lovers: Dark chocolate and cocoa appear to slow age-related artery hardening that’s linked to heart attack and stroke.


Researchers at Athens Medical School in Athens, Greece have found that chocolate can slow artery hardening in healthy young adults and researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts have found that cocoa can protect arteries in older adults.



“Dark chocolate, by improving endothelial function and arterial stiffness, emerges as a promising food, high in nutritional value beyond its pleasant taste,” says researcher Charalambos Vlachopoulos from Athens Medical School.
