A Canadian team trying to launch a spaceship says it’s one step closer to a launch date in the new year.
The da Vinci project team says a helium balloon needed to lift a rocket 24 km into the air has been completed in Toronto.
The team plans to use the 1,800-kg balloon to lift the rocket to a point where its engines are supposed to ignite and propel the craft to 100 km.
The team hopes to launch the rocket before the end of January from Saskatchewan.
The Canadian da Vinci project was considered one of the front-runners for the X-Prize.
