This is one amazing piece of equipment.  Built in 1978 by German steel company Krupp, this giant trencher "Bagger 288" was designed for open mining trenching. (w/pics)

It’s a mechanical hydra! It’s a mountaintop’s worst nightmare! It’s Mother Earth’s Master Molester! It’s a Photoshop fake! Nope, it’s real — all too real. “It’s a mobile strip mining machine, which can also be used to saw a country in half.”

Not sure how they ever got the bulldozer out of Bagger 288, or what other vehicles may be caught in its teeth.  Anyone have a 30 ton toothpick?
