This year, US parents will watch more TV, DVDs and movies in theaters than teenagers, according to an Integrated Media Measurement (IMMI) press release dated July 17, 2007.
The firm found females ages 45 to 54 will spend about 47.6 days in 2007 watching TV, DVDs and movies in theaters. Males in the same age group will watch 40.2 days worth of the same media. Females ages 35 to 44 will watch 38.3 days of media, while males that age are projected to watch for 33.9 days.
Comparatively, teenagers ages 13 to 17 will spend 33.35 days in 2007 watching TV, playing DVDs and going to the movies.
Amanda Welsh of IMMI said, "One of the key factors leading to adults watching more television than their kids are the other ‘screen’ options teens use with more comfort and regularity, such as computers, video games and iPods. Teens embrace new content delivery and entertainment technologies at a much faster pace than their parents, so we will naturally see a widening gap in the amount of television viewing time between the two groups."
