Miss America Lauren Nelson of Lawton is the centerpiece of a new kid-friendly Internet browser designed to keep children away from dangers sites and predators.
The Miss America Kid-Safe Web Browser is to debut tomorrow. It’s a free download with many features that have existed for years to block children’s access to certain sites.
It also has an animated Nelson walking children through the online experience and advising them about Internet safety.
Nelson’s interest stems from a personal experience when she was 13.
She says she and some friends went to an Internet chat room and provided personal information.
Within a week an online predator was e-mailing lurid photos. She says she and her friends told their parents who contacted authorities.
