Antibiotics are a seriously important part of modern medicine, but due to certain infections becoming antibiotic-resistant, they can’t be doled out as plentifully as some would like. That might change in the near future, however, due to a new advancement from an unlikely source: the blood of alligators.
Yes, it turns out that proteins in gator blood might be the base for powerful new antibiotics that will be effective against “superbugs” that are resistant to current medicines. I wouldn’t want to be the poor scientist who has to collect said alligator blood, but it’s great to see such advancements happening.
