Transparent OLED Rear-View Mirror
It seems as though auto makers can never decide in what arena they would like to challenge the competition. One day it’s all about horsepower, the next it’s about fuel economy and by the end of the week it’s about in-car technology. While this drives prices down and brings the overall quality up, it also eventually leads to the question of “do I really need that?”
Most times of course the answer is no, but what would progress be if we didn’t have something to show for it? In this case, progress has manifested itself in the form of a small transparent screen that can provide information through the use of Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED). Surprisingly enough, it isn’t being used in the dash of a vehicle, but rather the rear-view mirror in the center of the windshield.
NeoView KOLON, based in Korea, is the company responsible for this new piece of in-car gadgetry and from the image, it seems as though their screen will provide your current speed, current gear and a few other pieces of information. It is unclear if it will be user configurable, but it would seem like a logical feature to include.
My only real question is if this will be secondary to the dash, or if it is supposed take its place. If the latter is the case, I’m not sure how safe or easy it will be to use on a daily basis.
