Smarter, Safer, Greener House Contest

Everyone is invited to enter the Smarter, Safer, Greener House Contest as a Team and compete to win bragging rights and a minimum cash prize of $500,000.  Individuals, businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies from anywhere in the world may enter the Contest.

Team candidates may include:

  • individuals or organizations with new technology products for green or smart buildings
  • general contractors who specialize in ‘green buildings’ and ‘intelligent building’ upgrades
  • businesses who currently manufacture products commonly used in energy conservation, water conservation, energy production and storage, or home communication systems
  • students, civic groups or other organizations with an interest in energy conservation

It is expected that each Team will be a collaboration of a contractor licensed to complete building renovations in Colorado combined with manufacturers of alternative energy devices, energy storage devices, water management devices, building supplies and home control devices as well as one or more experts on systems engineering, Wi-Fi communications, energy conservation, and waste management.

DaVinci Quest is seeking homeowners in Longmont, Colorado to participate in its Smarter, Safer, Greener House Contest.

Each participating Homeowner will be matched with a Team.  The Homeowner has the right to approve the Team and the Renovation Plan developed by the Team.

The Homeowner will be responsible for paying up to $15,000 of the $25,000 retail price of products and services used in the renovation.  This money may be financed through the Boulder County ClimateSmart Program or through a bank home improvement loan.  DaVinci Quest will also pay the Homeowner a $5,000 participation fee – bringing the net cost of the renovation down to $10,000.

Actual construction will take place between June 1 and August 31, 2010.

At this time, DaVinci Quest has already received 29 applications which have been assigned a priority number for matching with Teams as they enter the contest.  Our goal is a minimum of 50 homes in the contest, but we will include more if enough teams sign up.
