‘Phantom Bike’ – An Amazing Forkless Bicycle

Who Needs a Front Fork?

Designer Olli Erkkila has made lots of unusual bikes, but this might be the strangest one yet. This Forkless Cruiser, aka Phantom Bike, looks at first glance like the front wheel is being steered magically (check out the video below). It’s a cool effect, and even when you know how it works, it still looks strangely cool. (Pics and video)

Bike Riding for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Mexico City

Bike rides for the visually impaired and blind.

In a very interesting initiative that began last January, a group of three non governmental organizations from Mexico City are organizing bike rides for the blind and visually impaired. The rides are guided by volunteers on tandem bikes, and are offered on Sunday mornings, when a few streets in the historical center of the city are closed for pedestrians and human powered vehicles. What does this do for these people? More than you would think.

The Campaign Against Women Cyclists

Female cyclists have a hard enough time – we are generally a bit more safety-conscious and reticent when it comes to getting out on city streets, and the athletic among us who do fearlessly dive into bike racing and other cycling sports do so with less support or acknowledgment from the rest of the sporting world than men cyclists get. So the last thing a female cyclist needs is a fatwa – a ruling on a point of Islamic law.
