World’s Largest Water Pump To Protect New Orleans


New Orleans sits smack dab between the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Pontchartrain, and when a hurricane comes rolling in, those bodies of water tend to spill into the streets. This summer, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers started construction on a barrier that can block a 16-foot swell blown in from the Gulf and a massive pumping station that will blast floodwaters back to sea. Molecular Condom Could Protect Women From HIV


Polymer gel being developed that could block HIV

A polymer gel that blocks viral particles could one day provide a way for women to protect themselves against HIV infection. The gel reacts with semen to form a tight mesh that blocks the movement of virus particles. The material, which is still in early development, could eventually be combined with antiviral gels currently in clinical trials to provide a dual defense against HIV.

Amazing Photos Of Fighter Jets Breaking The Sound Barrier




Many fighter aircraft can travel with the speed of sound which creates a sonic boom. The term sonic boom is commonly used to refer to the shocks caused by the supersonic flight of an aircraft. When it breaks the sound barrier, an incredible ‘vapor cone’ surrounds the aircraft.
