Moms Using Cell Phones During Pregnancy May Cause Behavior Issues


Pregnant women should probably add cellphones to the list of things they need to avoid, along with alcohol, sushi and cat poo. A giant study that surveyed over 13,000 children found that women who used mobile phones when pregnant were more likely to give birth to kids with behavioral problems.

Researchers in Britain have carried out a study and found that nomophobia is plaguing our 24/7 life — running out of battery or credit, losing one’s handset and not having network coverage “affects 53 per cent of mobile users”.

The Search For The Perfect Battery


The Economist has an interesting article on the next big thing in automotive industry: the quest in search of the perfect battery.

Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which helped to make the mobile-phone revolution possible in the past decade, are now expected to power the increasing electrification of the car. “They are clearly the next step,” says Mary Ann Wright, the boss of Johnson Controls-Saft Advanced Power Solutions, a joint venture that recently opened a factory in France to produce lithium-ion batteries for hybrid vehicles.

Madonna Releases Album on Cell Phones


Madonna isn’t out of the game yet despite her reaching the magical 50 mark where biological age is concerned. In fact, she is hip enough to keep up with the times, releasing her new album for cell phones one week earlier than the actual CD release. Each new song can be downloaded for 24 hours before it is replaced by the next track, with individual songs retailing for 99p. Needless to say, her hot new single “4 Minutes” can already be downloaded for 75p a pop.

Jim Mielke’s wireless blood-fueled display is a true merging of technology and body art. At the recent Greener Gadgets Design Competition, the engineer demonstrated a subcutaneously implanted touch-screen that operates as a cell phone display, with the potential for 3G video calls that are visible just underneath the skin.

The P970 can be charged and then taken on the road as a second battery for gadgets with a USB input .

It sounds like a solution waiting for a problem, but Motorola’s P970 battery-powered battery recharger began shipping, four months after the curved, PEBL-like gagdet was announced at the Singapore-hosted CommunicAsia 2006 show. UPDATE (2009):  Motorola’s P970 was Zen-like in its simplicity – a rechargeable battery that recharged your cell phone’s battery via a mini USB port. Too bad it’s no longer on the Motorola Web site.
