The Machine: Llyn Foulkes’ Homemade Musical Instrument Made From Scavenged Car Horns

This is one horny instrument!

I’m a sucker for a good horn music, but even I was skeptical that artist and musician Llyn Foulkes could pull it off with this strange contraption of drum, bass, xylophone, cowbell and car horns. Lots and lots of car and bicycle horns.

Well, color me impressed: the home made contraption aptly called The Machine, worked wonderfully!

Foulkes plays a homemade contraption called the Machine, a dense, wraparound nest of scavenged and invented instruments whose crowning glory is a clump of old-fashioned car and bicycle horns.

Professor X Chair Dispenses Vodka, Announces Presence with Arduino Sounds and Smoke

This fully-functional wheelchair comes complete with, well, everything I could possibly think of that’s necessary for something to be called a Steampunk Professor X chair. Vodka cranberry dispenser? Yes. Booming Arduino/Adafruit sound effects? Sure! Working smokestack? Why, yes!

Better still, there’s video of the creator tooling around a model railroad museum, confusing and fascinating bystanders with his booze-dealing contraption of wonder. And yes, builder Daniel Valdez looks like Professor X:

Department stores don’t want you bringing your wet umbrella inside, accidentally getting their fancy merchandise all wet. That’s why, at least in Japan, many department stores have machines set up at the entrances to either put a plastic bag around your umbrella or dry it off with a hairdryer-like mechanism. The problem? These either create waste or use up lots of energy, neither of which are good things.

I built the ball machine because I thought my dog Jerry, might like it and that it would be something fun for me to build. So after two years of on and off work, with many safety features such as IR proximity sensors to protect Jerry and my son from the machine, I finally complete.
