The environmental damage caused by BP’s Gulf of Mexico oil spill may have been grossly exaggerated, a growing body of experts is suggesting. In a bold move, scientists have dismissed the torrent of grim predictions from President Obama and environmentalists as ‘hype’ with no data to back it up.

Shrimp boats are used to collect oil with booms in the waters.

It has been a little over three weeks since the April 20th explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, and the start of the massive and ongoing oil leak.  There have been many attempts  to contain and control the scale of the environmental disaster.  An estimated 5,000 barrels of oil continues to pour into the gulf every day.
