Oh the colors of this crazy critter.

A psychedelic fish that bounces on the ocean floor like a rubber ball has been classified as a new species.

The frogfish – which has a swirl of tan and peach zebra stripes that extend from its aqua eyes to its tail – was initially discovered by scuba diving instructors working for a tour operator a year ago in shallow waters off Ambon island in eastern Indonesia.

Of the thousands of “Once in a lifetime opportunity” ads you see on television and read in the papers, this one could actually be it. It’s not every day that a person gets a chance to own a Space Shuttle, but NASA is offering that to schools, science museums and “other appropriate organizations.” With the aim of generating funds for future missions, the space agency is willing to sell off Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour once they retire in September 2010.

Beer bottles, a nice contribution to holy land

Israeli archaeologists unveiled a 2,100-year-old Jerusalem perimeter wall along with beer bottles left behind by 19th century researchers who first discovered the stone defenses. The wall, on Mount Zion at the southern edge of Jerusalem’s Old City, dates back to the Second Jewish Temple, which was destroyed by the Romans in AD 70.

Getting bored with looking at other planets, NASA now plans to probe the sun

For more than 400 years, astronomers have studied the sun from afar. Now NASA has decided to go there. ‘We are going to visit a living, breathing star for the first time,’ says program scientist Lika Guhathakurta of NASA Headquarters. “This is an unexplored region of the solar system and the possibilities for discovery are off the charts.”
