Finnair – Future Of Flying In 2093

Finnair - Future Of Flying In 2093

While we are pretty busy talking about space tourism and flying cars, Finnair, which is celebrating its 85th birthday, is envisioning the future of flying. What might flying be like then in 85 years? I have no idea, but the ingenious folks at Finnair seem to have an answer to the question. They have conceptualized five future aircrafts for the year 2093, which boast streamlined exteriors and entertainment-rich interiors. The best part is that all the aircrafts are eco-friendly and materials used in the making are 100 percent recyclable. Let’s take a quick look at the conceptualized aircrafts of 2093.

Scientists Directly Observe Three Distant Planets

Scientists Directly Observe Three Distant Planets

The Hubble Space Telescope captured a fuzzy image of the planet, known as Fomalhaut b, which is no more than a white speck in the dust ring that surrounds the star.

A little more of the universe has been pried out of the shadows. Two groups of astronomers have taken the first pictures of what they say – and other astronomers agree – are most likely planets going around other stars.

Before dinosaurs, this strange eight-armed creature ruled the Earth:

Scientists have discovered what they believe is an eight-armed creature, which colonised a large section of the world’s oceans over 300 million years before the first dinosaurs emerged.

I-Swarm Project: Robotic Ants May One Day Build On Mars

I-Swarm Project

Recent discoveries of water and Earth-like soil on Mars have set imaginations running wild that human beings may one day colonize the Red Planet. However, the first inhabitants might not be human in form at all, but rather swarms of tiny robots.   Video after the jump.

Hydropolis – Underwater Hotel

Hydropolis - Underwater Hotel

  Hydropolis

No I’m not talking about a boring trip to the Aquarium or an episode of the Sopranos. No what I am referring to … is literally “sleeping with the fishes”. When one thinks about the future of travel, one might conjure up gaining passage on a rocket ship into space, the final frontier. Or that the honeymoons of the 21st century might actually entail a trip to the moon! Yes, yes… in all due course… I am sure that eventuality will happen. But what about exhausting the many unique features of terra firma before we actually decide to leave the planet? What about exploring the deep blue seas?

Japan Space Elevator Association To Draw Up Timetable For Space Elevator

Japan Space Elevator Association To Draw Up Timetable For Space Elevator

The idea of a space elevator made of ultra-strong carbon nanotubes has been talked about a lot over the past several years, but recently some research groups have begun to investigate the idea as a real possibility. Most recently, scientists from Japan have started an organization called the Japan Space Elevator Association, and they plan to host an international conference in November to draw up a timetable for the machine.

The Stinkiest Fuel on Earth

 The Stinkiest Fuel on Earth

Powerful odors are still power

Will Brinton, the founder of Woods End Laboratories, a bioenergy consultancy, predicts a future without landfills. Instead we’ll use table scraps and sewage to power our homes. Just dump the waste into a household digester, and bacteria will break it down and release the natural gas methane. (Chart)

Coolest Satellite to Orbit Earth, Ever

Coolest Satellite to Orbit Earth, Ever

Feature: highly accurate mapping

The European Space Agency is set to launch the Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) Star Destroyer satellite on September 10th. This advanced mission will be the most sophisticated piece of kit ever to orbit the Earth, investigating the Earth’s gravitational field. It will perform a highly accurate mapping campaign, producing a high resolution reference shape of the geoid (i.e. the shape of our planet). The mission will be unprecedented, but that’s not the reason why I’m drawing attention to it…
