A Camera With 158 Lenses

This camera, made by the Nagoya Institute of Technology, has 158 lenses — more than any other camera in the world, according to Guinness World Records. It was made by associate professor Yojiro Ishino and his students in order to take 3D pictures of a flame. The lenses are arranged in four rows, and the entire rig is 47 centimeters across.

Crazy Camera Van

Obsessed with cameras much?  While you can probably deny it, the owner of this vehicle – the Camera Van – can’t.  Literally decked in thousands of cameras, it’s what the Google Street View cars would have looked like if their designers had some panache.  Or were clinically insane.  Either will do.

First created by Harrod Blank back in 1994, the van has made the novelty art/car show rounds for the last fifteen years (and still has a full book of appearances scheduled).  I guess it’s hard to resist the allure of staring at a monstrous vehicle that sports wall-to-wall carpeting with functional cameras, continually snapping photos of people in awe at its veritable insanity.

Robert Buelteman works indoors in total darkness, forsaking cameras, lenses, and computers for jumper cables, fiber optics, and 80,000 volts of electricity. This bizarre union of Dr. Frankenstein and Georgia O’Keeffe spawns photos that seem to portray the life force of his subjects as the very process destroys them.

Harshvardhan Nawathe won India’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” in 2000.

The film “Slumdog Millionaire,” in which a poor Indian boy wins a quiz show, won eight Oscars. The country is home to a man with a similar story — Harsh Nawathe, who became a millionaire in 2000 as a TV contestant. Today he is helping to educate the children of the slums.
