‘Dry Water’ To Hit The Streets

It sounds like a contradiction in terms, but scientists have created “dry water”.

The substance resembles powdered sugar and is expected to make a big commercial splash.

Each particle of dry water contains a water droplet surrounded by a sandy silica coating. In fact, 95% of dry water is “wet” water.

One of its key properties is a powerful ability to absorb gases.

Scientists believe dry water could be used to combat global warming by soaking up and trapping the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Tests show that it is more than three times better at absorbing carbon dioxide as ordinary water. Dry water may also prove useful for storing methane and expanding the energy source potential of the natural gas…

North Korea Hails New ‘Anti-Ageing Super Drink’

Microelements make up the Super Drink
North Korea has developed a “super drink” that, it says, can multiply brain cells and stop skin ageing. The secretive state’s official news agency, KCNA, says the drink contains 60 kinds of “microelements” extracted from more than 30 species of plants.

It attracted “much interest from Chinese, German and other businessmen” at a trade fair in Pyongyang last month, the agency reports. It was developed by a joint venture fruit juice company. KCNA says: “It, with effects of both preventive and curative treatment, helps improve mental and retentive faculties by multiplying brain cells.

Silver Glasses For The World’s Poor

Silver Glasses For The World’s Poor

We revere Santa Claus as our mysterious giver of gifts, but the rest of the world may reserve that spot for Josh Silver. Professor Joshua Silver, to be specific – a retired physics teacher at Oxford University who has developed “Silver Glasses,” which are tunable spectacles that need no optometrist to adjust. Vocal Joystick Allows Disabled To Use Computers

Vocal Joystick Allows Disabled To Use Computers

Researchers at the University of Washington have developed the ‘Vocal Joystick’ software, which allows disabled people to use computers in a better way. The software allows the computer to be driven by sound, in pace of the conventional functioning mouse. The difference between the Vocal Joystick and other technologies is that it does not use standard voice recognition technology and instead detects basic sounds at about 100 times a second and generates a fluid and adaptive cursor movement. It is said that the system allows users to exploit large sets of sounds for continuous and discrete movement. The Vocal Joystick does the job with the help of a microphone, computer with a standard sound card and a user who can vocalize.
