The allegations against German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom just keep on coming. German news service, Spiegel, has information that Telekom tracked journalists’ movements using mobile phone data. And the company may have hired ex-Stasi spies to help.

The challenge for cellphone designers has been to continually reduce the size of the device, yet make the display as large as possible.

This is the so-called “Scroll” device created by 13 Tech Design. It’s packing a touchscreen-based cellphone, a 10 megapixel camera and 1080p camcorder, various media-playing features, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, and a full-fledged computer that runs on Vista or XP.

American’s Addiction to Texting

Americans Can’t Stop Texting

Data revenues at US mobile service providers surged to $23 billion in 2007 and now account for 17% of all mobile service revenues, according to the CTIA. The total represented a 53% increase over 2006.

Much of that revenue is due to the enormous popularity of text messaging. Nearly 50 billion messages were sent in December 2007 alone.

 Dubai-Based Emirates Airlines First to Allow Cellphone Calls During Flights

Emirates said the first permitted mobile phone call was made on a flight between Dubai and Casablanca.

The aircraft, an Airbus A340, is fitted with a system which stops mobiles from interfering with a plane’s electronics.

Emirates plans to extend the system to more aircraft and later this year add BlackBerry and other data services.
