It had to happen…A Japanese man infatuated with a character in a computer game has married the object of his desires in a solemn ceremony in Tokyo.

The groom – who calls himself SAL9000 – says he fell in love with Nene Anegasaki from the Nintendo DS game Love Plus after a string of failed romances with girlfriends from other animated games.

The wedding took place at the Tokyo Institute of Technology and was presided over by a priest. The groom, dressed in a white suit and tie, read his vows before Ms Anegasaki flashed hers up on the touch screen of his red Nintendo.

The event was broadcast live on the Nico Nico Douga website, with the groom’s best man giving a speech and Ms Anegasaki’s maid of honour – also imaginary – posting an on-screen message expressing her happiness at the first union of a man and computer character.

Contemporary Comic Strips

FRANCETUCKY about jason
FRANCETUCKY
Drew and Natalie are the humor engines behind Francetucky, a selection of pretty funky short cartoons. Although there are currently only 22 strips, the same artists has several other selections as well. The particular aspect of these cartoons that caught my eye was the three panel style that was simple and effective for the computer age… (Pics)

Steve Wozniak Showing Off His NIXIE Tube Watch

The ultimate geek toy

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak shows us that a nixie tube watch is probably a better idea in theory than it is in practice. It’s so bulky. Sure looks like a lot of trouble he has to go through just to change the time zone. Never mind that, if they could just make these things a whole lot smaller, we’d really be lusting after one.
Woz also talks about how his fellow passengers start to get worried when he adjusts his nixie watch, which to the uninitiated might look like a crude bomb triggering device. Also of interest is how he can smuggle a ceramic knife on board an aircraft without being arrested. We weren’t aware he flew commercial.

3.14

Did you know that March 14th (3/14) is National Pi Day, as officially designated by the US congress this year?

Traditional festivities are to study the mathematical constant pi in school (which took place yesterday since 3/14 fell on Saturday this year), bake and eat a pie, and sing Pi Day Carols. Evil Mad Scientist Laboraties constructed a Pi Pie Trivet for the occasion, and posted instructions for making your own.

Teens Signal Shift in Internet Usage

Contrary to some studies, teens show a wide range of online interests

Most Internet users worldwide use the Web primarily for e-mail and search, according to a global survey conducted by Gartner during the fourth quarter of 2007.

Keyboard Pants for the Geek in the Family

Keyboard Pants for the Geek in the Family

The geekiest pants ever

“Hey good looking! Wanna play with my keyboard?”

Okay, so that wasn’t a pickup line that ever worked in the past, but here is just the device, well fashion wear, that might make it a workable line. Teach them how to log in, type in their phone number, and hit the return key again and again and again.

Designer Erik De Nijs, has stitched together this eye catching pair of “Beauty and the Geek” jeans. More pics after the jump.
