Yellow Pages Goes Green: Movement Against Unsolicited Phone Book Delivery

Yellowpagesgoesgreen.org is an organization working to educate consumers and promote the green movement to eliminate the unsolicited delivery of Yellow and White Pages books. The site is aimed at starting a national movement to solicit the White/Yellow Pages industry to proactively stop the delivery of books or to begin moving legislation to mandate the stoppage of this activity. This movement should be similar to the National No-Call Registry that have stopped and/or decreased the number of unwanted solicitations telephone calls to consumers.

Robotic Chair

Called the Leopard, Japan’s Oki Electric Industry Company and Okamura Corporation have developed a robotic chair that will rise up to meet you as you sit. It’s based off of a robotic set of legs the duo developed that better simulates jumping for bipedal ‘bots. The chair doesn’t jump, but it will tilt to cuddle you, bringing both the seat and the backrest in to greet you. It’ll also gently push you upward when it feels you stand.

Thomas Frey:  The USPTO is hiring. In fact they are doing a lot of hiring, over 1,200 new examiners every year, and they still can’t keep up with the deluge of new patent filings. But while the number of patent filings has grown from 90,544 in 1967 to 484,955 in 2007, a 535% workload increase in 40 years plus an equally growing backlog of patent applications waiting for examiner attention, and no more room to expand in their current offices, the agency is now looking at a different approach to solving their growing pains.

Don’t Let That Bugger Get Away!

 

There are plenty of reasons why I don’t drink coffee (the taste being one of the larger reasons). Since I don’t drink the stuff, I don’t worry about anyone running off with my coffee mugs. However, in some offices this is a real issue. People will knowingly take your cup, fill it up, and take it back to their desk. Sure, you can confront them about their blatant disregard for your ownership, or you can get a better mug.
