Schweeb – human-powered monorail transportation system

If you were gonna ask me what Google’s next investment would be, in a million years I would not have answered a human-powered monorail transportation system. But via Google’s Project 10^100, the search engine giant announced on Friday that it’s given $1 million to Shweeb, which makes a transportation system based on pedal-powered pods that zoom around a monorail track about 20 feet above the ground. Combination Brake-Accelerator Pedal Solves Accidental Acceleration Problem

Naruse Pedal

The combination Naruse Pedal always activates the brakes when a driver stomps down.

Two pedals, inches apart, one for gas and the other for brakes. For years, a Japanese inventor has argued that this most basic of car designs is dangerously flawed.  The side-by-side pedal arrangement, the inventor says, can cause drivers to mistakenly floor the accelerator instead of the brakes, especially under stress.

Going Green Under The Sea
A pedal-powered submarine capable of diving up to 30 metres has been developed by a Russian company. The craft can be powered by two people with no specialist training and moves at about walking pace.

The pedallers sit side by side in the craft, most of which is made from a special acrylic glass. Its designers say this will give occupants “spectacular underwater views”.

Apart from two sets of pedals, controls are limited to a steering wheel and a few buttons to make operating the submarine as simple as possible.

It’s even eco-friendly since there’s no emissions (unless you count sweat) and the original model pictured above was constructed from mostly found materials.
