Luckily for us, the Australian performance artist known as Stelarc, formerly Stelios Arcadiou, is not prone to sensationalism.  He only wants to transform his body into a portal on the internet. Which is why visitors to Exit Art, a gallery in Midtown Manhattan, are being treated to a video of Stelarc’s left arm being cut up like a rare tenderloin to implant what will eventually be a Bluetooth-enabled artificial ear.

 Bionic Hand With Gel-filled Fingertips

If things go well, prostheses may soon help a person “feel” too. Bionic hands with gelled fingertips may be the answer to provide the wearer with a sense of touch and sensitivity. This may even help them instinctively hold objects, because humans have a built-in reflex that responds to vibrations. The top part of the bionic hands are now going to consist of a rubber skin filled with thick silicon gel. If an object should slip, the elastic skin transmits the vibrations through the gel to acoustic sensors, which provide instant feedback, and the motors can tighten their grip. Also, the finger’s bone is covered with electrodes, which change the electric conduction according to the pressure that helps the user to feel.

Dog With Bionic Leg Can Walk And Run Like Other Dogs 

Reg Walker’s eight year old pet, Coal who lost his left paw to a cancer a year ago, can now walk and run like other dogs with the help of a £10,000 bionic leg. The bionic leg has been implanted using a new technology called Intraosseous Transcutaneous Amputation Prostheses (ITAP), which enables skin to grow around a metal pin to which the leg is attached. The ITAP technology was used to provide artificial limbs to the survivor of London 7/7 bombing.
