NASA To Develop Nano-Satellites

NASA’s new nano-satellites – The Mini AERCam prototype is just 7.5 inches in diameter and weighs only 10 pounds

NASA announced today that it will team with m2mi to develop very small satellites, called nano-sats which weigh between 11 to 110lb, for the development of telecommunications and networking services in space.

NASA says large groups of nano-satellites can be grouped in a constellation, that will be placed in low Earth orbit to offer new telecommunications and networking systems and services.NASA and m2mi will develop what they call fifth generation telecommunications and networking systems for TCP/IP-based networks and related services.

 Latest Flying Car - The Milner AirCar

The AirCar is not just a plane that can drive around. Quite the opposite: it’s a lightweight fully-featured car that can compact to be about the size of a Hummer and fit in a garage. Soon it will transform into a flying car. The photographs below are of a prototype that can drive but can’t fly, but the company hopes to get it off the ground and onto the market within the next two years. (w/pics)

FMG9: Prototype 9mm Folding Submachine Gun


In it’s closed position, while you’re carrying it around, the MagPul FMG9 is designed to look something like a portable radio, and incorporates a detachable tactical white light.

The FMG9 mini-SMG is very slickly designed and looks like a fully-developed product, which is particularly impressive considering that, according to our understanding at present, the MagPul team developed the FMG9 on short notice specifically for the SHOT Show 2008.

Nanotechnology-Powered Wiper-Less Windshield

The prototype of Hidra Fioravanti

Italian car designer Leonardo Fioravanti (who worked for Pininfarina for a number of years) has developed a car prototype without windshield wipers. This amazing technological feat is made possible thanks to the use of 4 layers of glass modified using nanotechnology. The first layer filters the sun and repels the water. The second layer, using ‘nano-dust’ is able to push dirt to the side. The third layer acts as a sensor that activates the second layer when it detects dirt, while the fourth layer is a conductor of electricity to power this complex mechanism.
