Latest Trend: Making Dogs look like Pandas and Tigers

8 Panda Dog 354

This is so bizarre I don’t know what to say. Reports in the British press are showing stories about dogs being dyed in China to look like giant pandas and tigers. At first, I didn’t believe it when I saw it yesterday, but now more photos are circulating.
Many people dress up their dogs for Halloween or for other holidays (we’ve done photo galleries actually of dogs dressed to the nines), and those have brought complaints from readers.
I always thought it was harmless, especially for the terrier Hattie Mae that loves her new outfits and is at the end of this pet photo gallery. She’s smiling.
But this seems so over the top and maybe even dangerous to me (dye around the eyes?). I would love to know what they’re thinking. Any ideas?

1 mm Tiger Sculpture is Smaller Than a Grain of Rice

Tiny_tiger 222
Oh so Tiny!
A Taiwanese artist has created what he claims is the smallest sculpture of a tiger ever made – so small it could fit through the eye of a needle, and can only be seen properly with a magnifying glass.

Chen Forng-shean, who has been sculpting as a hobby for around 30 years, carved the tiger from resin in anticipation of the Chinese lunar Year of the Tiger, which begins on February 14.

Standing at just 1 millimetre (0.04 inch) high, and just over a millimetre long, he says that it’s the world’s tiniest tiger.

I Thought Polar Bears Were Fabulous Swimmers?

As the icecaps melt, polar bears are having problems. They’ve now got to swim further than they ever have to hunt for food, which can tire out the suckers long before they find an ice sheet to rest on. A Swedish design group called ADDI thinks it’s about time people did something to help the poor guys, proposing a polar bear lifejacket.

New Online Dating Service for Zoo Animals

New Online Dating Service for Zoo Animals

Mating rituals are easy, but describing them online is tough

A new software is making it way onto the web to help improve the sex lives of zoo animals. It’s promising easier and more accessible data, faster matches and — in a page out of the most particular of human dating sites — details on an animal’s personality to ease what can be a testy process. Luckily, zoos won’t be required to document all the turn-ons and turn-offs of each animal. (Pics)
