Spy-Tech Powered Billboard in Times Square

This electronic billboard just made its debut this morning in New York City’s Times Square, and already it has people stopping in their tracks and watching it with amazement. Using an HD camera and unique spy technology, in real time it can digitally separate pictures of individuals standing in front of the billboard, and make it look like the giant model is plucking their images from the crowd. The new TKTS booth in Times Square supports glass benches atop two-inch-thick windows

The largest load-bearing glass structure in the world, the new TKTS booth in Times Square, supports glass benches atop two-inch-thick windows. Sounds delicate, but it regularly holds 500 foot-stomping Jumbotron watchers. For reinforcement, engineers at Dewhurst Macfarlane used a plastic film called SentryGlas Plus. (Pics)

Last year, the Times Square Ball got an LED makeover for its 100th anniversary. This year that tradition continues, all 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs of it (and don’t forget the 2,668 Waterford crystals). The 12-foot-wide, 11,875-pound ball is capable of displaying “16 million vibrant colors and billions of patterns” – did you even know that many colors existed? – and all in all it’ll use 20% less energy than last year.
