Researchers discovered several small regions in online addicts’ brains shrunk.

There are more internet and gaming addicts in China than in any other country. China  also conducts more research on the issue than anyone. Chinese researchers think that excessive gaming and internet use can permanently alter brain function, according to a new study.

Fits.me is a new service that has actually come up with a pretty clever way to let people of all shapes and sizes see how a garment will look on them while shopping online. The secret is an animated mannequin with a body composed of separate panels that can be individually adjusted via servo motors on the inside. This allows the mannequin to grow or shrink to any body shape or size. (video)

Bitcoin – World’s Fastest Growing Currency Triples in Price

Bitcoin, the world’s fastest-gaining currency has tripled in price again. Last week, SmartMoney reported that the Bitcoin had exploded from an exchange rate near zero to more than $10 in about a year, making it one of the top-returning assets of any kind. On Wednesday the currency topped $30.

Twitter Usage Increases But It is Still a Niche Activity

Can twitter go from niche to mainstream in the US?

Twitter usage had risen from 8% of US internet users in fall 2010 to 13% in May 2011, a 62.5% increase in penetration according to an annoucement by the Pew Internet & American Life Project this month. Twitter usage does seem to be growing, but is a bump like that sizeable enough to take it from niche to mainstream?

Tennessee Law Makes it Illegal to Post Images That Can ‘Cause Emotional Distress’

Images that are displayed online that could “frighten, intimidate or cause emotional distress” are illegal.

Tennessee lawmakers pass a new law that makes it a crime to “transmit or display an image” online that is likely to “frighten, intimidate or cause emotional distress” to someone who sees it. Violations can get you almost a year in jail time or up to $2500 in fines.

Syria Shuts Down the Internet As Revolt Gains Steam

The Internet plays an important roll in controlling or directing a revolt.

Internet traffic has come to a halt in Syria after the government blocked Internet services in an attempt to quell a growing revolt in the Middle Eastern nation.

“Starting at 3:35 UTC today, approximately two thirds of all Syrian networks became unreachable from the global Internet,” Internet intelligence firm Renesys reported on its blog today.

“Over the course of roughly half an hour, the routes to 40 of 59 networks were withdrawn from the global routing table.”

On Friday, the Chinese military accused the U.S. on of launching a global “Internet war” to bring down Arab and other governments, redirecting the spotlight away from allegations of major online attacks on Western targets originating in China.
