Bath salts are labeled “not for human consumption,” which helps them skirt a law that would make them illegal.

This spring in the emergency room at Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville, Pa, .Dr. Jeffrey J. Narmi could not believe what he was seeing.  There were people arriving at the emergency room so agitated, violent and psychotic that a small army of medical workers was needed to hold them down.

Global War on Drugs Has Failed: Report

A new report by the Global Commission on Drug Policy has come to the conclusion that the global war on drugs has failed. The Global Commission, which includes a group of politicians and former world leaders, says the current anti-drug policy has been fueling organized crime, costing taxpayers millions of dollars and causing thousands of deaths.

Powerful new antibiotics are being developed that act like magnets to destroy bacteria and disease, according to a new study.  Researchers from IBM, the computer giant, say they are working on tiny particles known as nanostructures that are attracted to infected cells but do not destroy healthy ones.

Drugs frequently prescribed to treat hair loss or an enlarged prostate may contribute to irreversible sexual dysfunction in men, new research finds.  Use of dutasteride (Avodart) and finasteride (Proscar and Propecia) were linked to erectile dysfunction, depression and loss of libido in a review of existing studies.

Up to 35% of Wounded Soldiers in Warrior Units are Addicted to Drugs

25% to 35% of wounded soldiers are addicted to drugs.

Medical officials estimate that 25% to 35% of about 10,000 ailing soldiers assigned to special wounded-care companies or battalions are addicted or dependent on drugs — particularly prescription narcotic pain relievers, according to an Army inspector general’s report made public Tuesday.
