What you need to earn in every county in the U.S. to afford a decent one-bedroom apartment

San Francisco is in the top 10 of most expensive counties.

A report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition shows how much a worker would have to earn to afford what the Department of Housing and Urban Development considers “fair market rent” in local communities across the country. The government sets these housing rates, which include rent plus utilities, based on the local market for decent-quality apartments of different sizes — neither dumps nor luxury flats. These are also the rates that HUD uses to establish local housing subsidies.

China’s Little Brothers cleanse online chatter at Sina Weibo’s censorship hub

The censors, new college graduates, are ambivalent about deleting posts.

On the outskirts of the Chinese city of Tianjin, in a modern office building. rows of censors sit and stare at computer screens.  Their mission: delete any post on Sina Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, deemed offensive or politically unacceptable.

Growth in China’s car ownership drives parking space shortage

Finding a parking spot in China is now an expensive endeavor. Homebuyers in China are learning that too many cars means too few parking spaces.  If you think the price of putting a roof over your head has soared, wait until you try to secure a parking space for your car.

St. John’s Wood is the place the London A-listers choose to live.  It is a neighborhood of the wealthy with its leafy avenues lined with the mansions of Paul McCartney, Ewan McGregor and Kate Moss. And yet, they share the most unlikely neighbors — the Kastrati family.

Detroit’s Population Shrank 25% in Last Decade

The Motor City’s engine is dying. Detroit’s population shrank by more than 25% in the last decade, according to Census statistics reported in the New York Times. The city’s population fell to 713,777 in 2010, a drop of almost 240,000 residents. That’s 100,000 more than Katrina-ravaged New Orleans lost.
