A new app for Google Glass provides text captions from the spoken word.

Life can be a little bit easier for those who have lost some or all of their hearing thanks to a new application for Google Glass. The free Captioning on Glass app was created by a team at the Georgia Institute of Technology and does precisely what it sounds like: It provides text captions of the spoken word on the small screen of Google’s wearable display. LittleBits’ BitLab is an app store for hardware

LittleBits has just announced something called the BitLab, a contest merged with a crowd sourced technology system that allows inventors to create new LittleBits blocks, upload them, and have them made and sold by the company. The system also includes a hardware development kit that allows anyone access to LittleBits’ custom magnetic snap-together leads. (Videos)

Smartphones to replace room keys at Hilton hotels

The new smartphone key feature will arrive in six hotels in 2015.

Spurred by growing competition, Hilton has announced that its hotels will allow customers to take self-check-ins one step further, using their iPhone or Android handset as a room key. The feature won’t start arriving until 2015, but when it does, it’ll arrive at six of the company’s hotel brands.

People in India will be the first in the world to get access to what could be the next big thing in wearable technology: the smartshoe. Ducere Technologies Pvt., an Indian startup, is going to start selling its Bluetooth enabled Lechal shoes for more than $100 a pair in September. The smartshoes sync up with a smartphone app that uses Google maps and vibrate to tell users when and where to turn to reach their destination.
