When unemployment rises among men, domestic violence falls

Gender-based jobless rates change household dynamics.

The European Union’s unemployment rate fell in June for the first time in more than two years — that is, until you consider that 10.9 percent of the union’s workforce is still jobless, and that number for countries that use the euro is 12.1 percent.

7 negative people you need to let go of

Ignore negative people and move on from them when you must.

There are some people that are so entrenched in seeing the negative side of things that they leave zero room for positive things to grow.  People like this inhabit our families, work environments and social circles.  It can be emotionally draining just being around them, and you must be careful because their negative attitudes and opinions are venomous and contagious.  Negativity perpetuates itself, breeds dissatisfaction and clutters the mind.  And when the mind is cluttered with negativity, happiness is hard to come by.

How 18 to 29 year olds use their phones totally differently from older people

How young people behave now is what’s going to be normal in a few years.

Just about everyone is carrying a smartphone these days and we wanted to look at how etiquette is going to evolve.  Checking the phone at dinner time was total no-no for some of us.  But since almost all of us carry phones around, is that still true?

Top 10 Reasons Why Men Won’t Commit

Men love their single life and experience few of the traditional pressures that once encouraged them to marry.

They want kids, houses and sex. And they want women, too — but not in the form of wives. Not until they’re older. So says the latest study to probe the minds of America’s young men, aged 25 to 33. The study found 10 reasons men won’t commit — from the ease of finding sex partners to the desire to avoid financial risks of divorce.

How good fathers contribute to their kids’ lives

Men bring much more to the parenting enterprise than money, when many fathers are highly involved in childrearing.

Like many of her peers in Hollywood, Jennifer Aniston, not to mention scholars and writers opining on fatherhood these days, she has come to the conclusion that dads are dispensable: “Women are realizing it more and more knowing that they don’t have to settle with a man just to have that child,” she said at a press conference a few years ago.

Why thinking about buying something makes us happier than buying it

Buying objects rather than experiences tends to disappoint.

Over and over again, the idea that you can’t buy happiness has been exposed as a myth. Richer countries are happier than poor countries. Richer people within richer countries are happier, too. The evidence is unequivocal: Money makes you happy. You just have to know what to do with it.

Rich Burlew’s Comic Book Business Success Story

A remarkable Empire of One business

Rich Burlew created the first The Order of the Stick, a hilarious webcomic that celebrates and satirizes tabletop role-playing games and medieval fantasy, on September 29, 2003. The strip was originally produced to entertain people who came to his website for gaming articles, but it quickly became the most popular feature, leading Burlew to eventually abandon writing articles almost entirely.

The entire comic strip is drawn with simple stick characters, hence the name.

On September 30, 2005, The Order of the Stick began appearing in Dragon, the long-running official D&D magazine, and the strip became profitable enough for him to quit his job as a freelance graphic designer and concentrate on cartooning.

Rich also started self-publishing his comics in book form in 2005, but it became hard for him to keep all of the older books in stock. So in 2012 he decided to do a Kickstarter project with a goal of $57,750. Instead, he raised $1,254,120 from 14,952 backers…

How research misses the human behind the demographic

Volkswagen recognized that our purpose as people is to lead better lives, not to consume their products.

The word “consumer” is an unavoidable term in marketing.  But the label is counterproductive and misguided.  The word is counterproductive and misguided and puts corporate interests over customer concerns.  It presupposes a response you haven’t earned yet. Their purpose is not to consume your product.
