‘Automation addiction’ – Have pilots forgotten how to fly?

“Automation addiction” has eroded their flying skills of pilots to the point that they sometimes don’t know how to recover from stalls and other mid-flight problems, say pilots and safety officials. The weakened skills have contributed to hundreds of deaths in airline crashes in the last five years.

According to a recent article on PennLive.com, when you type ‘airline’ and ‘revenue guarantee’ in a major search engine and you’ll find articles about airports nationwide that have used and are using revenue guarantees to expand or preserve air service.”

Last year was a good one for the airline industry, with U.S. airlines churning out the highest profits in more than a decade. With the exception of American Airlines, every major carrier turned in positive profits for the year.

In the 2011 Airline Quality Rating (AQR) report released on April 4, quality is up as well.
