The internet population in China hit 618 million in 2013 with 81% connected via mobile internet

Mobile Internet users increased year-on-year by 80 million people in China.

China is become an increasingly connected country aided not least by the growth of mobile internet access. Last year, China ended up with 618 million Internet users and 500 million mobile Internet users, according to a report published by state-affiliated research organization China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), spotted first by Tech in Asia.

Giant car vending machine could steer people away from private car ownership

The company, Kandi Technologies is based in Hangzhou, China.  They want to challenge the idea of traditional car ownership. In a country where air pollution is a serious environmental and health hazard, the company has created a giant vending machine that allows citizens to rent electric vehicles on an hourly basis. With a fleet of more than 100,000, Kandi already has plans to expand to other cities this year.

Surgeons in China have reportedly saved a man’s severed hand by attaching it to his ankle. The amazing surgical procedure was required after Xiao Wei lost his right hand in an industrial accident in November.

China to combat smog with artificial rain

China has a severe air pollution problem. Smog has done everything from grounding planes at major airports to closing schools across the country. China’s smog is so dense that it’s even crept over to Japan and across other parts of Asia. China is working on putting measures into place to combat pollution, but they still need a more immediate solution for clearing up the heavy smog. According to the China Meteorological Administration, he country is putting its hopes on artificial rain.
