Monster.com and market research company GfK conducted a survey of 8,000 workers across the United States, Canada, India, and Europe which we suppose makes it somewhat official: America is number one! Number one in the percentage of employees who hate their jobs, that is.

Mobile access has become critical to global business today and the Accenture CIO Mobility Survey 2013 reinforces that. The survey was conducted online last winter and finds that 75 percent of 413 IT professionals rate mobility among their top five priorities. But it also makes clear that there’s lots of room for CIOs to expand enterprise mobile capabilities going forward.

70% of adults in the U.S. reported having broadband access.
Pew Research has released the results of a survey that shows how one of the more advanced countries in the world, the U.S., is still not quite there in leading by example: 20% of U.S. adults are still without broadband or smartphones for internet access. And 3% of people in the country still using dial-up connections.

Americans have faith in the advancement of human technology.
A Pew Research Center report offers a fascinating look at Americans’ views on aging — and on, specifically, the practice known as “radical life extension.” The survey found that most American adults don’t believe that such life extension capabilities will be generally feasible in the near future: 73 percent of them answered no when asked whether the average person would live to be 120 years old by the year 2050.
In the heat of the moment, it is so easy to tweet, post or Instagram emotionally charged or questionable content. Those posts or content can come back to bite you. That could be why a new survey finds about one in four young adults fear they’ll get fired or turned down for a job by employers who see their more risqué social-media posts.

Engaged employees who had a lot of flextime at work had a 44 percent higher level of well-being than disengaged employees with very little to no flextime.
Talent Plus, like many companies across the Midlands, finds summer an ideal time for employees to take off. But employees at the Lincoln-based human resources firm don’t go through the formal process of accruing their leave. They check with their manager, coordinate with others in their department and take time off from a limitless bank of days and hours. In short, co-chairman Kimberly Rath said, no questions asked, as long as the work gets done.

According to a new poll released by The Atlantic and The Aspen Institute Americans consider themselves to be members of a divided nation. As Bob Cohnnotes, “Every day we hear about how society is splitting apart — a polarized Congress, a fragmented media market, a persistent schism among Americans over social issues.” There is, however, one question from the poll that showed a certain kind of unity among Americans that I found surprising and heartening.

A German non-profit, the Bertelsmann Stiftung, researches, publishes, and “stimulates debate” on a variety of societal issues. They just released the results of their 2013 Religion Monitor in which they analyzed responses to a 100-question survey regarding religion/politics completed by 14,000 individuals in 13 countries.

The majority of staff who own a smartphone or tablet used them at work.
Employees continue to use their own smartphones and tablets at work without the approval of the company’s IT department. Just over half (56.8%) of 4,371 employees worldwide were using personal devices at work, according to a survey by analyst house Ovum.
