The survey represents some of the lowest ratings Americans have given to religious influence in the U.S. in 40 years.
Seventy-seven percent of Americans believe that religion’s influence in the nation is waning, yet also think society would be better off if more Americans were religious, according to a new survey.

Asymco analyst Horace Dediu has a very smart point regarding the real impact of shifting media consumption patterns on legacy gatekeepers.He estimates that iTunes’ average revenue per user (ARPU) has fallen from over $100 in the fourth quarter of 2007 to about $39 by the fourth quarter of 2012. Over that same time, the number of total iTunes accounts has roughly doubled, from around 250 million to roughly 500 million.

Women who regularly consumed probiotics through yogurt showed altered brain function.
Researchers from UCLA now have the first evidence that bacteria ingested in food can affect brain function in humans. They found that women who regularly consumed beneficial bacteria known as probiotics through yogurt showed altered brain function, both while in a resting state and in response to an emotion-recognition task, in an early proof-of-concept study of healthy women.

The first 48 hours following a procedure is most critical.
Researchers have found that people who have surgery towards the end of the week are more likely to die than those who have procedures earlier on. A British Medical Journal report into non-emergency operations in England, suggests the overall risk of death from such planned procedures remains low. But it also shows “unacceptable” variation in survival rates through the week, a leading body of UK surgeons says.

Babson and Baruch Colleges issued a report last week that points to an exciting trend in the U.S. economy: The percentage of adults involved in startups in 2012 hit 13%–a record high since Babson began tracking entrepreneurship rates in 1999.
