Volvo will introduce fleet of self-driving cars in Sweden by 2017

100 lucky customers will be given the opportunity to ride around in a car that does their driving for them.

Sweden has just announced that they will play host to self-driving cars in the next couple of years. England, Japan, Singapore and the U.S. have already announced that they will host fleets of self-driving automobiles, but Sweden’s 100-car strong automotive army will be the first manufactured by Volvo. Replacing batteries with super capacitors: Volvo’s quest to create the ultimate electric vehicle

The battery is the biggest limitation for electric vehicles (EV).  Tesla, General Motors, Nissan and others install heavy batteries that limit vehicle range and performance. The batteries take up as much as 15% of the vehicle’s total weight.

Road trains are the future of hands-free driving

 Vehicle platoons (aka “road trains”) will allow software-equipped cars to automatically follow a professional driver in a “lead car”.

There will be platoons of vehicles lead by a professional driver that will let you take your eyes off the road and save fuel before cars are driven fully by computers.  By 2020 they will be on the road in Europe. (video)
